Don't bother buying the dye egg kits. Just use food coloring. For solid color eggs just add 2tsp vinegar to 20 drops of dye and 1/2 cup boiling water. Dip hard boil egg into mix until desired shade. This recipe is on the back of most dyes. For fun psychedelic eggs I put my eggs in a strainer in the sink. I then cover the eggs with a little vinegar & roll the eggs in the strainer. Then I put a few drops of a dye color on each egg & roll the eggs around. Then I add another color until I get the desired effect. I also recommend starting with the lightest color you will be using and I wouldn't add more than 3 colors but 2 is prefered. If you are doing it with kids it fun to watch the yellow & blue make green etc.
