Compressing icons on your Windows Desktop

If you want to pack more icons onto your Windows Desktop, you can set the spacing between icons so that more of them can be shown. To adjust the icon spacing on your desktop, right click on your desktop and select Properties from the menu. In the Display Properties panel, select the Appearance tab and then click the Advanced button, this will open the Advanced Appearance panel. Near the bottom is a entry labeled Item with a selectbox under it. In this select box you can select Icon Space (Vertical) and Icon Space Horizontal and once yo do, you can then adjust this spacing in pixels to your liking. Once you are done, click OK in both panels.

After the spacing is adjusted, you can then right click on your desktop and select Arrange Icons By -> Align to Grid so that icons will make use of your new spacing. Once that is done, you need to actually rearrange the icons and this is done by right clicking on the desktop and selecting Arrange Icons By -> Auto Arrange.
