Indexing encrypted files in Vista
Windows Vista does not normally index encrypted files. What this means is that you can not use the search functionality in Vista to search files that are encrypted. If this is how you want things, you are good. But if you want to be able to search encrypted files in Vista, here's what you need to do to make this happen.
Go to the Control Panel and select System and Maintenance, then select Indexing Options, and lastly select the Advanced button. If you have UAC enabled, you'll need to confirm that you really want to do this. Once you get to the Advanced options, look for the File Setting section. In this section check the checkbox next to "Index encrypted files", then click OK to save your changes.
Once you do this, Vista will start indexing encrypted files, and this will make them searchable.
