Play DVDs on Ubuntu
If you want to be able to play DVD videos on your Ubuntu system, you should load Totem. It works well and it is easy to install. To install it, get a terminal window, type the following and hit Enter:
You'll be asked to enter your root password. Once that command runs, run this command in your terminal window and hit Enter:
Once you are done with those two simple commands, you'll be able to insert a video DVD into your computer and it'll play the movie without your having to do anything... Totem will open in Ubuntu automatically.
sudo apt-get install totem-xine libxine1-ffmpeg libdvdread3
You'll be asked to enter your root password. Once that command runs, run this command in your terminal window and hit Enter:
sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread3/install-css.sh
Once you are done with those two simple commands, you'll be able to insert a video DVD into your computer and it'll play the movie without your having to do anything... Totem will open in Ubuntu automatically.
