Vacation in a privately owned second home in France

Many Brits own second homes in France and rent them by the week for self-catering holidays when they are not using them their selves. This is much cheaper than hotels and allows more freedom. They call them gites in France and there are many lists on the Internet. One of the best is GitesdeFrance.info which lists the top 400 gites in France.

We rented a place in the South of France last year. It's owned by an English couple and was luxurious and inexpensive. Worked out to be $15 per night per person (10 of us). This way of staying in France is great for large groups or families. Here's the web site of where we stayed:
