spring cleaning down comforter, fluffing
This is not an officially sanctioned tip, but it worked for me.
After washing a down comforter, you're supposed to "fluff" it in the dryer with some old tennis balls to break up the down clots. All the tennis balls around here are covered in dog-chew drool-slime, which is not among my preferred fabric softeners. So I put a couple Irish Spring bars of soap (still in the individual boxes) in with the comforter. It broke up the clots and made my comforter smell fresh, like a leprechaun.
Make sure the comforter is dry, the dryer is cool, and you do this without heat if you are going to try this domestic happiness tip! I can't vouchsafe for the results if you put bars of soap in a hot, wet, dryer.
Other brands of soap may also work, but proceed with caution.
