energy for aerobic workouts, biking

So prob'ly everyone knows this by now, but I am late to the party as usual.

Energy gels (like GU or others) are great for making sure you don't bonk when doing extended aerobic activity, like biking. I take one 15 minutes before a lunch-time hammerfest on the old Huffy 3-speed bicycle and it reduces my suffering by an estimated 23.9%.

Espresso LOVE from GU is my favorite. 2x the caffeine, baby.

Don't forget to drink something with these (and, of course, while you workout). Otherwise they can disturb your stomach a bit.

As someone who had the displeasure of bonking last week, I can tell you that it is to be avoided at all costs. I spent about an hour feeling worse then I ever had, interspersed with bouts of throwing up. Real pleasant. After 45 minutes of this, I drank a Gatorade (a lesser form of GU), and I felt fully recovered in about 15 minutes.

A refinement: I still recommend Espresso Love for before your bike ride so that you get the caffeine rush into all your veins, alveoli, follicles, and other ganglia.

But put a Chocolate Outrage into your back pocket in your jersey to nosh upon as you go into the second hour. The sun heats it up and it tastes and feels like a melted chocolate brownie.
