Safely using a flash drive

If you are using a flash drive to transport your data, here are some things you should be doing to make sure that your data is safe in the event that your flash drive gets lost:

1) Make sure you put a label on your flash drive with your name and phone number. This way if some non-evil person finds your drive, you have a good chance of getting it back.

2) Encrypt all of the data that you put on your flash drive. Never put anything on a flash drive unencrypted except for...

3) Make sure you have one unencrypted file in the root directory of you flash drive called "IF-FOUND-READ-ME" (or something to that effect). Put your name, phone number and address in this file. You can also put something in this file asking the person reading it to please be nice and get the flash drive back to you since it'll save starving puppies (or whatever your particular sob-story is).

If you take these steps, your data will be secure if yo lose your flash drive and you'll have a better chance of getting your drive back.
