If you are going to be traveling single, avoid staying in hotels. Hotels are expensive, and too private when traveling alone. Once you get in your room, you are by yourself and have no chance of meeting anyone. A much better option when traveling alone is to stay in a hostel, an inn, or a bed & breakfast. These types of accommodations tend to be cheaper when traveling alone. Even better, they have common areas that see greater use so you are far more likely to meet some interesting people during your travels.
