Inspiring others through our trials and tribulations
If I had to choose one word to describe my experience with Sherry and the folks at HopeShow, it would be…Inspiring. As I was composing the score for the trailer and preparing to edit it together, I was reminded of the life journey that each of us are .. watching films like Requiem for a Dream and Trainspotting, you say to yourself, 'Who could ever make a comeback from a heroin addiction?'. And yet... Sherry did.
She would say that she didn't do it on her own... that she had support from friends and family... and from something much bigger than life itself.
There is always hope. Sometimes situations in life make that hope difficult or even impossible to see. Thousands of people commit suicide every year. Nearly 100 people will kill themselves today... and that's just in America... because they don’t see any way out... any hope... any reason to live.
In my view, hope is like the sun. Sometimes the side of the planet that we live on is turned away from the sun. Sometimes the clouds block the sunshine. But the sun is constant... Even at night, the sun is still shining somewhere... even when we don't see it, or feel it's effects.
And that's what excites me about Sherry's Journey. It is a reminder of this hope that is oftentimes illusive at best. Even in one of the darkest, most hopeless moments in Sherry's life, she somehow found her way back.
Now her courageous choice to share her life experiences with the world is offering that same hope to others.
I wholeheartedly share the same sentiments that Sherry has voiced to me. If Sherry's Journey helps one person break free from an addiction of some kind, or encourages someone to seek out the help that they desperately need, then all of the time, love, energy and money that has been spent on this project will have been well worth it.
On a personal and professional level, I'm glad to have been a part of this project and I also look forward to many more inspiring stories from HopeShow in the near future.
Thank you Sherry for sharing your journey with us.
