Avoid Cedar Shavings In Your Hamster Cage

Cedar wood shavings contain chemicals called phenols that have been linked to liver and respiratory ailments in hamsters. Pine shavings are an option, but the oil in those shavings can cause an allergic reaction in some hamsters. The best choice for hamster bedding material is aspen shavings, or even specially designed small animal litter made from wood pulp.
