Fixing unreadable messages in Windows MailWindows Mail in Vista (the follow-on product to Outlook Express) sometimes has problems with deleting messages from the Inbox and Outbox. When the problem occurs, messages will first become unreadable in the reading pane. Then Windows Mail will generate an error when you try to delete the unreadable message. This is usually caused by a corrupt mailstore and can often be corrected by rebuilding the mailstore. To rebuild the mailstore, follow these steps.
- Close Windows Mail - Click the Start button and select your Computer. - Navigate to C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsMail. Note that username should be replaced with your actual user name, don't put the text username in here. - Delete the WindowsMail.MSMessageStore file. - From here, navigate to the Backup\new directory and delete the WindowsMail.MSMessageStore in there. Now you can reopen Windows Mail. When you do so it should rebuild the mailstore and you should be able to read the messages that were previously unreadable.
