do NOT change your oil every 3,000 miles
While the folks at Jiffy Lube would like you to think otherwise, you do not need to change your engine oil every 3,000 miles. Most auto manufacturers recommend changing it every 5,000 to 7,5000 miles depending on the type of driving you do. If you do mainly freeway driving (of the non-stop-and-go variety), you are probably good for 7,500 miles. If you do more city driving, you should change it every 5,000 miles.
You may think think this doesn't really matter, but think about the amount of oil used by all of the cars out there in the US and the rest of the world. Cutting this in half is a significant savings of resources.
Check your manual, don't just rely on the sticker that the mechanic slapped on your windshield when you got your last oil change
