I you don't want your kids to spend 5 hours in front of an Xbox or Playstation while you are busy, let them do something creative and useful. There's a number of free resources on the web that will help your kids develop their creativity through manual activities. I have recently come across a site called www.freecoloring.org , which lets you print out hundreds of free coloring pages for your kids to color.
