Inserting an OPA
Before you insert an oropharyngeal airway (OPA) in a patient that is unresponsive (or at least pretending to be), you want to try and make sure that their gag reflex is gone before you insert the airway. If it's not, they may end up vomiting all over you wish, aside from the mess, slows down the process of getting a patent airway. To see if their gag reflex is gone, try tickling their eyelashes first. If their does not respond to this tickling, then their gag reflex is also likely to be gone so it is safe to insert the OPA.
