If you are a waiter or waitress that works in a restaurant with a "seat yourself" policy and you want to attract more customers to your section, here's a trick that I've found to help. When you see people entering, go to an empty table in your section and act as if you are in the last stages of cleaning off that table; wipe the table, adjust the menus/condiments, etc so that they see you doing this. I've found that most times customers will go directly to the table that they see has just been cleaned. It can really help get customers into your section and get you more tips.
