If you do, you will forever be losing the small plastic pieces that go in the lids, and once that piece is gone, the cup is rendered useless.

Instead, make sure you buy the sippy cups that have the valve already built into the lid so that there is just the cup and the lid. Over time, you'll be much happier with these sippy cups since you won't have to worry about losing pieces of them.
