Cleaning an icy windshield without an ice scrapper
If you end up with an icy windshield and you don't have an ice scrapper, you can always use a credit card if you are desperate. Some tricks to help make the credit card work better as an ice scrapper:
- Start your car and turn on the defrosters while you are working on the ice with the credit card. This will soften up the ice and make things easier as you progress.
- Wear gloves or cover your hands in some way. Since a credit card is obviously small, your hands will be hitting the snow and ice on the windshield. The ice will be hard and sharp and can easily cut your hands.
- Instead of an actual credit card, use something like a credit card that doesn't have a magnetic stripe on the back (so it won't get ruined). For me, I find that my health insurance card works best. It's made of the same material as a credit card, but there's no magenetic stripe to get messed up.
