Setting the number of Recent Items in Vista

If you would like to change the number of items that are shown in the Recent Items menu in Vista, you can do so by making a registry edit. (This may work in XP too, but I haven't tried it)

Start the registry editor by going to Start -> Run, typing regedit and hitting Enter.

On the left side of the panel, navigate down to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER + Software + Microsoft + Windows + CurrentVersion + Policies + Explorer section. Then look in the right panel for an entry called MaxRecentDocs. If it exists, double click on it and change this value to whatever you like. If it does not exist, right click in the right panel and select New -> DWORD 32-bit and create a new value with the name MaxRecentDocs and give it a value that corresponds to the number of items that will be shown in the Recent Items menu.
