Hack your XBox classicIf you've got an old XBox classic lying around, you are probably wondering what you can do with this game console since they aren't making new games for the XBox classic any longer. Lifehacker has a nice idea. Since there's a hard drive, a fast processor and an ethernet port on the XBox, they suggest turning it into a UNIX-based home media center (http://xboxmediacenter.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page) which will allow you to:
- Play videos, music and look at photos located on any computer in your house displayed on your television. - Watch Apple movie trailers, YouTube videos, Launch.com videos and see RSS newsfeeds dynamically loaded from the internet, all on your TV. - Transfer files to and from your Xbox's hard drive - Rip DVDs to a shared network drive to play later or backup - Watch DVDs on your XBox without "dongle" (no more DVD Playback Kit required!) - Continue to play games on your XBox. But XBox Live games will no longer work. All this can be done with *NO* hardware changes, it's a completely software-based hack to your XBox that turns it into a complete home media center. The only downside is that you can't play XBox live games afterwards.
