Changing default applications on the Mac
On the Mac, there are two ways you can easily change the application that is used to open a file or types of files.
First, if you want to change the default application used to open all instances of a type of file, find one of these files in the Finder. Right-click on the file and select "Get Info". In the Info panel, there is a section called "Open with". In that section you can choose the application used to open these types of files and then press the "Change All..." button and this application will be used to open all files of this type.
If you just want to use a different application for a one-time opening, once you find the file you can right click on it and select the "Open With" option. This allows you to select from a list of likely applications or you can select "Other..." to choose any application on your Mac.
