If you keep the System Preferences application in your Dock, you can use it to get to specific preferences. You don't have to open the System Preferences app and then select the preference you want to edit. Instead, right-click on the System Preference icon in the Dock (or you can hold a left-click on this icon). When you do this, you'll get a menu of the specific preference panels and you can select the one you want to go to directly.
