Insulate your whole-house fan in the winter

Whole-house fans are great for keeping your house cool in the summer. Unfortunately, they can also help keep your house cool in the winter. The louvers help keep air from moving from the house to the attic, but in the winter this can be a significant source of heat loss.

To reduce the heat lose through the opening in the winter, but a hot water heater blanket and use it to seal up the opening from the attic. This saves a lot of energy over the course of a winter.
