Disable the guest account in Snow Leopard
There have been reports lately of major bug in Snow Leopard. What happens is that you log into the guest account on your Mac and all of the non-guest data in your "real" account gets blown away. It doesn't always happen, and nobody is sure what causes it to happen when it does. But one things for sure, if you are running Snow Leopard you do not want to log into your guest account and risk losing all your data.
The best way to stay safe is to disable your guest account.
You do this by going to "System Preferences" (in the Apple menu) and selecting "Accounts".
Once you are in the Accounts, if you see a lock icon in the lower-left of the panel that is locked, click on it to unlock it so you can make changes.
You then want to click on the "Guest Account" account (on the left) and then uncheck the box next to "Allow guests to log in to this computer".
Once done, click the lock icon again to lock this page up.
This will prevent you, or anyone else, from accidentally logging into a guest account and blowing away the data on your machine.
