Keep windows from powering off USB devices

To save power, Windows will automatically power down USB devices connected to your computer if it thinks it is safe to do so. While this does provide power savings, Windows is often not smart enough to power devices back up when they are needed. This can lead to USB devices not working correctly.

If you're having problems with a USB device not working correctly, one thing you can try is to turn off the automatic powering down of connected USB devices. This can often fix the problem. Here's what to do to change this setting.

1. Open the Device Manager application. You can usually do this by going to the Start button and typing in devmgmt.msc.

2. Once the device manager is open, open the Universal Serial Bus controllers section.

3. In the Universal Serial Bus controllers section, double click on USB Root Hub for your device.

4. This will open a properties panel. Click on the Power Management tab in the panel.

5. Uncheck the box next to Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

6. Click OK to save your changes.

Once this is done, windows will no longer power down your connected USB device and this may help with any issues you are having using this device.
