What are Repossessed Car Auctions and How to Buy at Repossessed Car Auctions Safely

Repossessed car auctions are public or private auctions in which repossessed cars are sold. These repossessed cars are vehicles whose possession a bank or lien holder regained after the initial buyer defaulted on the payment of his auto loan. Now, the good thing about these repossessed car auctions is that vehicles are usually bought for as much as 70%-80% less than their market price, depending on their condition. This is simply because the lien holder has a very real need to make at least some of their money back. Also, considering the current recession we're going through, repossesed cars are still flooding the market, as more auto loan go unpayed.

These are some tips to buy safely at repossessed car auctions:

1- If this is your first time around, don't go to traditional offline auctions, unless you're prepaired to spend a long time learning the ropes beforehand. At these repossessed car auctions, you'd be competing with professional car dealers looking to resell the cars they buy. Also, the potential offers are somewhat limited to local lots and the such. Try online auctions instead. It's a much more friendly environment for the new comer.

2- Choose the cars you'd be intereted to buy. See how much they're being sold for and be clear on how much money you can spend.

3- Take into consideration when determining your top bid all extra expenses associated witr top bid should the purchase of a car ( papers, transportation, etc ). Once you know what your top bid should be, don't go beyond that price, as tempting as it may be. There'll be other cars and other repossessed car auctions.

4- Check the seller's reputation. Track their past deals and how they went down. Ask any questions you find relevant.

5- Chat with other customers. Ask them for their experience when dealing with a particular seller or just bidding at a particular marketplace. Thi is all much easier if you've gone the online route, as there are even forum with guys like yourself who've already been where you're now.

6- Check the repossessed car's condition. Get a full Vehicle History Report. I like the paid - but cheap - service at Autocheck. If you're at online repossessed car auctions, these reports are sometimes even offered on the listings themselves by the seller.
