Power problems with Powermatic PM2000 table saws

If you have a Powermatic PM2000 table saw and you think there is something wrong with the motor because your saw seems to be lacking in power, it's probably the belt and not the motor.

The Powermatic PM2000 uses a special type of belt to drive the blade that is much thinner than traditional belts. When it slips, this thinner belt usually does not make squeaking noises or create a burning smell. While this belt does offer many advantages, it's a lot harder to tell when it's slipping.

So if you think your saw is lacking in power and there's something wrong with the motor, try tightening the belt first. Even if the belt seems to be adjusted correctly, tighten it up a little more and see if that fixes the problem. 9 times out of 10 it will.
