Opening the Vista and Office boxes

If you purchase a copy of Windows Vista or Office 2007, the first thing you'll have to contend with is the box. Unwilling to use conventional packaging, Microsoft decided to illustrate just how revolutionary Vista and Office are by putting them into boxes which are entirely unlike any box you've ever seen before. Perhaps Houdini has seen boxes akin to those in which Vista and Office 2007 are shipped, but not your average consumer. You see, your average consumer expects products to come in boxes which are easily opened. Not so with Vista and Office 2007.

If you've given up, here are two sites that offer explanations and step-by-step instructions on how to breach the box in which Vista and Office 2007 are shipped:

It seems like in their quest to mimic all that is good about Apple, the folks at Microsoft noticed that Apple products almost always come in elegant, unique packaging and they felt compelled to duplicate this. However, as if often the case when Microsoft takes an interesting or good idea and tries to make it it's own, they fall flat. Really, does a box containing software really need a pulley?
