Delaying restart messages in WindowsAfter some Windows updates, you need to reboot before the update process is completed. But what about when you don't want to reboot just yet? Maybe you have work to do, and you don't want to spend 10 minutes as you wait for your computer to shut down, reboot, and for all of your programs to start. It's easy enough, you decide to close the window and not reboot now. The problem with this is that Windows than continually pesters you with messages about needing to restart now every few minutes until you finally give up in exasperation.
But there is a simple cure. Go to the Start menu, select Run, and then enter services.msc in the dialog and press Enter. This will start the Microsoft Management Console. You will see a bunch of services listed in the right part of the console. Find the one called Automatic Updates, right click on it, and select Stop in the menu that is shown. This will stop the service that provides the automatic update reminders so that you can work in peace. Next time you reboot, the service will be restarted automatically, so you will continue to get future reminders when you need to update Windows... meaning that making this change will not cause any security issues on your computer.
