Remove programs from the Add or Remove Programs Tool
Sometimes when a program is removed from Windows, it may still show up as being installed in the Add or Remove Programs Tool. While this doesn't cause any real problems, if you are the pedantic sort, it will certainly eat at your inner being that this remnant will not go away. If you do end up with an abandoned program in the Add or Remove Programs Took, here is how to manually remove the program.
1. Run regedit by going to Start, selecting Run and then entering regedit and hitting Enter.
2. In the left side of the registry editor, expand the sections down to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Uninstall.
3. Each key listed under the Uninstall section of the left pane of registry editor represents a program that is displayed in the Currently Installed programs list of the Add or Remove Programs Tool. The names of the keys are usually nonsense. To determine which program that each key represents, select the key (you can scroll down through them), and then view the DisplayName value in the details pane on the right side of the window. In this way, you can figure out which program each key represents.
4. When you find the key that represents the program that you want to remove from the Add or Remove Programs Tool, right click on the key name (in the left panel) and select Delete.
5. Once this is done, go the File -> Exit to quit the registry editor. When you now go to the Add or Remove Programs tool, the program represented by the deleted key should now be gone.
