Accessing blocked site
If you want to access blocked sites from work, school, the library or from other computers that are not under your control, you need to use a proxy server. A proxy server is a server that is *not* blocked to you so you are allowed to get there. All the proxy server does is axt as an intermediary. You go to the proxy server, tell it the site you'd *really* like to go to and it goes to the site for you and returns the results of the page. Most proxy servers support things like javascript, and they will update the links that get returned to you so that clicking on them takes you back to the proxy server so that the proxy server goes and gets the new page that you want. But not all proxy servers do this, the quality varies.
One of the problems with proxy servers is that they have a limited lifetime. Once the filtering programs figure out that a server is acting as a proxy, the proxy servers themselves will get added to the list of banned sites. It's a constant game of cat-and-mouse. That being the case, if you are going to use a proxy server, you need to make sure you have a large list of servers available so that you can try using new ones as others become banned.
The best list of available proxy servers can be found here: http://www.proxy4free.com/page1.html. They list hundreds of proxy servers.
One word of caution about proxy servers... some of the proxies are set out as what people call "honey pots". They are fully working proxies, but they are set up by people looking to perform identity theft, they look at, or sniff, all of the traffic going through the proxy. If you are going to use a proxy server, it's very important that you never enter personal information, credit card numbers, passwords, or any other piece of information that you would not want to be made public.
