Save energy doing your laundry

When washing your clothes, the most energy-intensive part of the process comes in the heating of the water. Some reports claim this accounts for 90% of the energy used by washing machines. You can easily reclaim this energy and reduce your energy bills by washing your clothes in cold water instead of warm or hot water.

In addition to saving energy, washing your clothes in cold water will keep your colors from fading so your clothes last longer. While there may be times when warm or hot water is called for, such as when you have heavily stained clothes, for most loads cold water will work just fine.
