Admin command prompt in Vista

In Vista, a command prompt with elevated or admin privileges is often needed to perform customizations or optimizations. If you find yourself often needing an elevated command prompt, it'll be worth your will to add this directly to the Start menu.

To add the eleveated command prompt to the Start menu, click Start and type cmd in the Search box. This will produce a list with one entry which is the shortcut to command prompt. Right click, the command prompt shortcut and select the "Pin to Start Menu" option. Click Start again and you should now see the command prompt shortcut in the Start menu. Right click the command prompt shortcut and choose "Properties". Click the "Advanced" button and check the "Run as administrator" checkbox then click "OK" to save the change.

You can now quickly and easily run the command prompt with elevated privileges.
