Controlling asparagus beetles
Asparagus beetles will eat the asparagus tips and leaves resulting in a plant that is nearly dead, or one that has no edible tips left for you. To avoid getting asparagus beetles in the first place, use row covers when the plants are small.
If you find that you have beetles on your asparagus plants, the first step is to get coffee can and fill it partially full with soapy water. Holding the can under the asparagus plant, shake the beetles off the plant and into the coffee can. Because of the soapy water, they will not be able to get out. Once you get as many beetles off the asparagus plant as possible, dust the plant with either bone meal or rock phosphate.
