Shrink the master volume control in XP

When you click on the volume icon in the Windows XP icon tray, it opens the master volume control panel which is pretty big. If you want or need to keep it open but you don't want it taking up so much space, hit Control + S. It'll shrink the master volume control panel to about 1/3 of its original size.
