cover your VIN number
Most newer cars have the VIN (vehicle identification number) placed on the dashboard so that it can viewed from the front windshield. This creates a great opportunity for thieves. They can copy down your VIN number, take it to the dealership and then pretend that they need a new key for "their" car. If the dealership is given the VIN, they can create a new key to fit that car.
By law, you can not remove the VIN from your car. But for the one on the dash, it's a good idea to cover it up so that it can not be read through the windshield. Just put a piece of tape over the VIN and thieves will not be able to create a key to fit your car.
