don't store your iPod in your car
Don't leave any disk drive-based product (laptop computer, video iPod, some MP3 players, some cameras, some cell phones (rare). Most anything with over 20 G in memory uses a disk drive) in your car on a hot summer day. High temperatures greatly accelerate data rot ("thermal decay").
Flash-based memories are OK.
Because I do have to leave my laptop in the car sometimes, I keep it in a cooler with a frozen plastic-coated gel block (don't put your electronics in a cooler with real ice that melts!) to keep it cool. I wrap the gel block in a towel to prevent condensation from forming and getting my computer wet.
